Cameron Dolan integrates computer science expertise and love for sustainability

鈥淚 really like ACEP鈥檚 values,鈥 said Cameron Dolan. 鈥淚 like that my work contributes to advancements in renewable energy, electrification and sustainability.鈥

Dolan initially joined ACEP as an intern in summer 2023 under the mentorship of Michelle Wilber while he was a computer science major at the University of 有料盒子视频 Anchorage. As part of his internship he performed data analysis on fully electric garbage trucks for the Municipality of Anchorage. He also worked on microgrid modeling for the Wind Economic Analysis project and as the first author.

Dolan has taken on additional projects and responsibilities since coming on board as a research engineer in fall 2024.

鈥淐am quickly jumped in to help with everything from web scraping solar data, analyzing electric vehicle data and modeling 有料盒子视频 microgrids to writing up the results in research papers,鈥 Wilber noted.

Dolan鈥檚 knowledge in computer science, experience in developing machine learning models and passion for sustainability all come together in his work.

His current projects involve a comparative analysis of the performance of Tesla electric vehicles with and without heat pumps in cold weather, data aggregation and analysis of solar production diversity of the Railbelt, and handling computer instrumentation 鈥 modifying software so analysis can be performed on it 鈥 for the Solar Root Cellar project. This project deals with installing a solar-powered heat pump into a root cellar to keep it cool.

鈥淚 love a lot of nerd stuff,鈥 Dolan laughed when asked about his interests other than work 鈥 he enjoys video games and working on electronics. He also likes hiking, biking and other various outdoor activities as well as comics, baking and cooking.
