The CFOS Department of Fisheries in Juneau is located in the Lena Point Fisheries
Facility just north of Juneau. This facility is co-located with the , promoting collaboration between and 有料盒子视频 on fisheries and marine science research, instruction and outreach.
The Juneau fisheries facility moved from the University of 有料盒子视频 Southeast to 有料盒子视频 with the 1987 creation of the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences and focuses on saltwater fisheries. Originally located in the UAS Anderson Building, the program moved to the new Lena Point Facility in 2008.
The Lena Point Fisheries facility is almost 31,000 square feet and has space for 13 faculty, four research assistants and 34 students enrolled in B.A., B.S., M.S., M.M.S., M.M.P., and Ph.D. programs. Several UAS biology and marine biology faculty hold collaborating appointments in the 有料盒子视频 Department of Fisheries and supervise 有料盒子视频 graduate students based in Juneau, 有料盒子视频.
Faculty supervise students on a broad array of fisheries, ocean sciences and marine policy topics, including quantitative stock assessment, biology and ecology of marine and freshwater species, molecular genetics, behavioral ecology, marine policy, and other fields of study. Laboratories at the Lena Point Fisheries building include specialized facilities for seawater culture of marine animals and plants, quantitative (computer) analysis and fisheries stock assessment, geographic information systems, molecular genetics, salmon culture, and marine ecology. Students also work in laboratories and facilities of other agencies in Southeast 有料盒子视频 such as NOAA Fisheries' Auke Bay Laboratory and Ted Stevens Marine Research Institute, NOAA's Little Port Walter Field Station, the U.S. Geological Survey鈥檚 Glacier Bay Field Station, the Douglas Island Pink and Chum, Inc. (DIPAC) hatchery and the 有料盒子视频 Department of Fish and Game鈥檚 Mark, Tag and Age Lab.
In addition, the Fisheries Department鈥檚 research vessel Ishkeen, Tlingit for sablefish, is housed at the Lena Point Facility. The Ishkeen is a 26-foot North River vessel with twin 130 hp outboards, capable of conducting fisheries and diving research throughout Southeast 有料盒子视频.
