My research focuses on developing research-based K-8 mathematics curricula and studying
how such materials can be vehicles for reforming K-8 mathematics teaching and teacher
education. It includes contributions to the Connected Mathematics complete middle school mathematics curriculum and the K-7 Math in a Cultural Context supplementary curriculum modules. I have also studied how CMP and MCC are used by
teachers in the classroom, how they shape students' learning of mathematics, and has
integrated these and other problem-solving oriented mathematics curricula into teacher
education program coursework and practice. I’ve worked for many years with in-service
teachers, both as part of workshops and formal research studies. My current work
is focused on connecting multicultural education strategies with teaching and learning
K-8 mathematics to address the needs of diverse learners, particularly in ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ.
