Dr. Philip was a long-time researcher with the Center for ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Native Health Research, and the event will honor his work in ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Native communities, and his lasting impact on our own community.

Particularly interested in social determinants of health in ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Native communities, he developed and evaluated culturally grounded health promotion programs using the principles of community based participatory research. He focused on programs promoting youth dog mushing including the Frank Attla Youth and Sled-Dog Care-Mushing Program. His most recent career achievements at CANHR involved the development of a new program of research exploring Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning prospects for American Indian/ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Native health.
Prior to joining ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ, he spent over 20 years as a competitive musher and continued to maintain a kennel in Nenana. Highlights of his mushing career include nine Iditarods and many other distance and sprint races.
