Many university departments will be closed or minimally staffed over the winter holiday break. This academic year鈥檚 winter closure will be Dec. 23-31, 2021. Additional soft closure days may be observed Dec. 20-22, 2021, and Jan. 3-7, 2022. You can find a list of many . To request changes or additions, please email uaf.chancellor@alaska.edu.

During the soft closure period (Dec. 20-22 and Jan. 3-7), campus buildings will be open on their regular schedules. During the hard closure period (Dec. 23-Jan. 2), most campus buildings will be secured, requiring card access authorization or key, unless specific arrangements have been made for a special event to have a building open.
For most faculty and staff, your card access will continue over winter break. If your card worked after hours and on weekends before the winter break, it will work during the winter break.
Student card access to buildings, classrooms, or labs that was assigned based on course registration will no longer be active beyond the end of the semester. Student card access that was assigned based on employment or research will generally continue through the winter break.
If you have questions about your ability to access buildings during the winter break, contact the access approving authority for your department. This will generally be the person who submits key and card access requests to the key issue office.
If you have additional questions, please call Facilities Services customer service at 907-474-7000.
The residence halls open Friday, Jan. 7, and classes begin Monday, Jan. 10. Campus shuttles will not run during the closure. Shuttle service will be available on the Nenana and Yukon routes from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Dec. 22 and from Jan. 3-7.
