I smiled as I paused at the poster near the entrance of the President’s office suite. ... I had IPY4 memories flashing back. Our university was abuzz with local, national, and international researchers visiting our campuses, working on collaborative proposals, and conducting field research.

Malware detection and prevention training course at CTC

Interim director of advising announced

Earlier this spring Chancellor White asked that first-year professional advisors and their units move from the Office of the Provost to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management effective July 1, 2024. As part of this transition, Holly McDonald will serve as interim director of advising for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management starting July 1.

Before serving as associate director of recruitment and interim director of admissions at the University of Montana, Hovis served as an admissions counselor at ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ, as well as the student involvement and organizations coordinator within the Center for Student Engagement.

Friday Focus: Enjoy summer activities at ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ

Although we are still awaiting the news of the final FY25 State of ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ budget, there is plenty to do to pass the time. With all of the fun under the Midnight Sun, I hope you are out enjoying all that Fairbanks and ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ have to offer! A few of our family's favorite summer activities this year have been primarily connected to activities with the kids. The Queens are making a showing this year at the Rotary Golden Heart Kids Running Club. This has gotten both kids and adults outside, staying active, and participating in many of the local fun runs, which are often fund-raisers for important community programs. For those interested, don’t forget about the biggest one of all - the Midnight Sun Run - starting on the Troth Yeddha’ Campus at the Patty Center next weekend in celebration of the summer solstice. You’ll never see anything like it so feel free to come out and participate as a runner, walker, volunteer, or spectator to cheer on the thousands that participate each year. Running may not be for everyone, so if that is the case, not to worry. ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ has a little something for everyone.

New pages and navigation options in UAOnline this June

Friday Focus: Improving ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ through Facilities Services

Working at ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ, building new facilities, and making major improvements and repairs, is the coolest job ever. After two years of planning, some good luck with the weather, and the teamwork of many skilled workers, this outage allowed ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Facilities Services to take the steam system down (impacting heat and hot water) to execute several critical improvements. This was the longest heating and hot water outage we have ever executed. The work we accomplished in those two weeks now allows us to systematically update the steam piping system without campus-wide outages. While the snowfall on the first day did have us making some quick adjustments, the amazing resilience and grace of our Nanook community kept our momentum moving forward, pushing this first critical phase of repairs to be completed on time. We are happy to report all systems are up and running again, and future outages are likely to be shortened as a result of this work. This type of work, especially on systems and buildings that our ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ community relies on, requires a lot of planning and precision to execute.

Friday Focus: College rename, leading the nation

This week, the UA Board of Regents approved a regulation change that formalized the renaming of ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ's College of Rural and Community Development to the College of Indigenous Studies. This action effectively makes ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ the first public institution of higher education in the Nation to have such a College. The name change which took effect immediately, came as the result of a two-year effort to solicit feedback in the renaming process. In its over 50-year history, CRCD has been known by different names and focused primarily on meeting local and regional educational needs across the Bristol Bay, Northwest, Chukchi, Kuskokwim and Interior ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ regions.
