Graduate Programs
Jump ahead of the rest!
Our courses and curriculum were developed in cooperation with groups and agencies that work professionally with resources management in ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ. These agencies, including the ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Department of Natural Resources, ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Department of Fish and Game, U.S. Forest Services, Bureau of Land Management, Natural Resources Conservation Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, contribute significantly by providing guest lecturers and internship and research opportunities for students.
Admission to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment generally requires a degree in a scientific discipline related to the natural sciences. The core disciplines of natural resources and the environment can be highly interdisciplinary and therefore, incoming students’ backgrounds vary considerably. Thus, acceptance into the program is made on a case-by-case basis.
Steps to Apply
- Potentially lead to faculty advisor relationship
- Potentially start the process of developing ideas for a thesis or project topic
- Start as early as possible
- Contact faculty members within our program to help direct your path
- Take the GRE’s or TOEFL (when applicable) – Graduate applicants to NRE programs are required to submit GRE scores except in rare circumstances
Recommended Application Deadlines:
Fall Semester: March 1 for international students; June 1 for U.S. citizens
Spring Semester: September 1 for international students; October 15 for U. S. citizens
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT DEADLINES:
Our deadline is the default university deadline of June 1 for fall. However, since we are a small department, it is in the student’s best interest to apply no later than March or April (for starting in the fall semester). Availability of a faculty mentor and funding is limited, therefore, for prospective students who are looking to be supported under a particular research program, earlier communication with a potential sponsoring faculty member provides a better chance of securing support.
