Scholarship opportunities within the department
There are various scholarships available to foreign languages & literatures students. Please contact the department for more information.
The purpose of this scholarship is to promote interest in the study of foreign languages and cultures and to enable students to study in countries of their choice.
- Must be a 有料盒子视频 Foreign Languages major
- Have a grade-point average of 3.0 cumulative, 3.5 in Foreign Language and be in good academic standing
- Part-time and full-time okay
- Recipient should demonstrate motivation, and academic and leadership potential
- Financial need can be considered, but only as final differentiating factor
- One letter of recommendation by academic faculty (who are not on the scholarship award committee).
- Application essay in English (see below).
- Transcript (must include GPA).
Essay:
A 300-500 word essay from applicants on activities to be supported by the scholarship, in the target language, shall be sent to the Department Chair of Foreign Languages and Literatures.
The Foreign Language Department Chair at 有料盒子视频 will be accepting applications for the Foreign Language Department Scholarship.
All materials must be submitted no later than February 15 by 5:00 p.m.

The Department Chair shall make the final selection or appoint a committee to do so. The Department Chair shall forward notification of final and alternate selections to the Scholarship Coordinator for approval, student notification and award dispersal.
The Spanish faculty at 有料盒子视频 will be accepting applications in February for the Bianca Zuckerman Spanish Study Abroad Scholarship. This year $5000 will be awarded to one Spanish major to be used towards a Spanish language study abroad experience during the coming 2019-20 academic year.
- Must be a 有料盒子视频 Foreign Languages major (Spanish).
- Have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 0 in Spanish, and 2.5 overall.
- Must have applied to study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country at the time of scholarship application (see 有料盒子视频 Study Away website).
- One letter of recommendation by academic faculty (who are not on the scholarship award committee).
- Application essay in English (see below).
- Short Spanish language sample (see below).
- Transcript (must include GPA).
Essay:
Please write an essay in English of 800-1000 words describing the benefits and importance to you of a study abroad experience, as well as your aptitude for such an experience. In your essay, please address the following questions:
1. Where are you planning to study abroad, and when?
- Describe (Suggested: Do you generally like to try new things? Talk about a time when you learned something new. How do you deal with difficult situations? How well do you handle change? Tell about an experience or challenge in your life that has helped you grow into the person you are.)
- Why do you want to study abroad? (Suggested: How would it benefit you? How might the experience change you? How will study abroad affect your life?)
- What are the qualities of a good cultural ambassador? (Suggested: What do you think would be the behaviors, attitudes and habits you should have when abroad in order to have a successful study abroad experience鈥攂oth as a learner of language and culture, and as an emissary of your country?
- Why are you an ideal candidate for study abroad? Why should you receive the Study Abroad Scholarship for Spanish? (Financial need may be considered but will not be the sole deciding factor in awarding this)

Write 250 words explaining why you would like to study abroad, and why you should be chosen for this award.

French program announces a limited scholarship of $1000 to one or maximum two students per year for the next 5 academic years. The scholarship is limited to French majors only at the level 300 or higher, and designed, at the discretion of the program's head, to help with student's expenses related to course credits in French or to travel to a French-speaking country. Both self-nominations and nominations by faculty or other students are acceptable. The candidate's grades, financial needs and active participation in the French club will be taken into consideration. No age limit. Nominations are due November 15th, 2020.
